WP/GM/ Amunugoda Kumaradasa Junior School is located in the Gampaha Division of the Gampaha Education Zone in the Western Province. Established around 1874, it was initially known as the WP/GM/Amunugoda government Boys' School.
Although it began with just a single building, the school has expanded today to include a main hall, an additional hall, and two two-story buildings. In the early days, students from Amunugoda village as well as surrounding villages such as Yagoda, Imbulgoda, Parakandeniya, Kossinna and Ganemulla received their education here. The school's first teacher was Mr. Don Helis Ranasinghe of Kossinna. Starting with a very limited staff, the teaching faculty has now grown to approximately 20 members.
Currently, the school
consists of about 170 students, a teaching staff of 20, and 5 non-academic
staff members. The children studying at this school are from the Amunugoda area
and its vicinity. Most of them come from challenging family backgrounds. For
these children coming from disadvantaged environments, the school provides a
great service by offering educational opportunities and helping them bring out
their hidden skills and talents.
